Frequently Asked eBike Questions
Some common electric bike questions. If you need additional information, don't hesitate to call or e-mail us.
Q: How long does the battery last?
A: Our batteries typically last for more than 20,000 miles. In most cases the battery will last approximately 600 charges, 4 years assuming a full charge is needed 3 times per week.
Q: How long do I need to charge the battery for?
A: Full charge time is 6-8 hours. You can expect approximately 80% of the charge in the first 2 hours.
Q: How much does it cost per battery charge?
A: This all depends on electrical rates in your area. The average is approximately 5 cents(USD)/charge.
Q: Will the battery recharge when I pedal?
A: Pietzo bikes are not equipped with recharging capabilities. The costs and added bike weight associated to implement this technology far outweigh the benefit of an additional 10% increase in battery life. Pietzo will continue to stay abreast of changes in technology to offer the best value in electric bikes.
Q: How many miles can I go on a single charge?
A: Several factors such as rider weight, road conditions, wind, and hills account for how far you can go utilizing the bike’s electric power. You can expect up to 20 miles using electric power only and up to 40 miles using the pedal assist mode.
Q: How can I responsibly dispose of the battery when I buy a new one?
A: When batteries reach the end of their life, Pietzo will accept them back and transfer them to a certified recycling center for disposal.
Q: How fast will the bike go?
A: Approximately 18 mph on a level road using the electric motor. Of course the bike will go faster when descending down a hill or by increasing the amount of pedaling.
Q: Do I need a license, insurance, or special registration?
A: No, Pietzo electric bikes are in the same class as standard, non-electric bikes.
Q: What kind of maintenance do I need to perform?
A: You maintain a Pietzo bike just like any other bike (ie check and adjust/replace tires, brakes, gears, chain, and frame). The battery and motor are sealed and therefore do not require any special maintenance.
Q: Can I ride the bike in the rain?
A: Yes, the battery and motor are sealed. You should wipe down the bike after riding in the rain.
Q: Can I get a tax credit for this purchase?
A: Federal tax credits are not yet available for electric bikes.
