Universities Add Pietzo Hybrid Electric Bikes to Their FleetsGives staff a cost-effective and eco-friendly way to get around campusBurlington, MA., September 8, 2010 – Many top-tier New England colleges and universities, including Harvard, Wellesley, Brandeis, Rhode Island School of Design, and UMass, have selected Pietzo hybrid electric bikes for their employees to move around campus. Use of the lithium-ion battery powered bikes lowers greenhouse gas emissions and offers cost-savings on gas and vehicle maintenance. Departments currently outfitted with Pietzo electric bikes include security, facilities, traffic and mail services. Kris Locke, Manager, of CommuterChoice at Harvard University Transportation Services notes, “The Pietzo electric bikes offer Harvard employees one more option to consider before driving a car. Whether getting around the Cambridge campus or heading to a meeting in the Longwood Medical Area, the electric bikes make the trip easy and effortless.” At Wellesley College, Patrick Willoughby, Director of Sustainability, says, “My overall goal as head of sustainability initiatives for the campus is to lower energy consumption and the Pietzo electric bicycles, used by our campus police and facilities organizations, are part of the plan to meet that goal. The electric bikes provide a visible demonstration of Wellesley’s commitment to lowering greenhouse gas emissions.” Pietzo electric bicycle program benefit:
For many maintenance trips around campus, a car or truck is not needed and outfitting the e-bikes with panniers enables tools to be carried along. Campus police who work a long shift experience less wear and tear on their joints, plus the e-bikes are silent and travel footpaths where cruisers can’t go. Pietzo electric-assisted bikes give riders the choice to pedal in battery-powered mode for help up hills or they can be pedaled as conventional bicycles. Pietzo offers a full service program including training. Pietzo electric bikes are delivered fully assembled and include a free on-campus tune-up in the first year after purchase. Prices range from $1,299 to $1,899. Pietzo’s new showroom opens September 10 at 101 Cambridge St., Burlington, MA. About Pietzo: Pietzo is the hybrid electric bicycle company that expands the number of riders using fun, eco-friendly transportation and uniquely supports the needs of campus and corporate fleets, commuters and recreational riders.
